Before Treatment

Strike 1:
My hair is dark
Strike 2:
My hair is very coarse
Strike 3:
My hair has an aversion to leaving my body.
And I am Out, so to speak.

You may not know this, but your friendly 25 year old, Russian krasey gal over here just happens to be from one of the hairiest ethnic groups around, Russians. Given my penchant for resembling sasquatch after not shaving for a day, what is a hairy gal to do but test-drive the newest gadget in the war on hair- Silk'n SensEpil?

Now this is a bit painful to show you, but I made a point of letting my leg hair grow out for a full 3 weeks- just to show you how awesome the results are. As a reference point, here is my leg before using the system, only after two days of not shaving.

      Before treatment of leg

Ridiculously easy to use, all you need to do is plug the unit in, set the strength of the pulse (the manufacturer recommends starting with the lowest setting at first), set the handheld unit to your skin, and press the button on the handheld console that activates a quick popping sound and a zap to the selected area. The machine will have a short refractory period of about 3-4 seconds, after which you “zap” the next area. Keep in mind that this doesn’t remove the hair on the area, but acts to kill the hair follicles. For that reason, you need to use the unit on shaved skin.

Now I have tried the no!no!, and came out extremely disappointed with my experience. Not only did I feel a slight sting when it passed over my hair, but I simply could not stand the stench of burning hair. It left the room reeking, my skin reeking, and the device reeking too. Silk’n Sens is different in that you apply the unit to freshly shaved skin so that you don’t get any of the stench. You also don’t get the pain, as I could barely feel each zap. All you really feel is a hint of warmth.

After 3 Weeks

        After 3 weeks of leg

And after 3 weeks of grow-out time after having used silk’n sensepil only twice! Notice the completely bald patches that have not grown back at all! The rest of the hair has taken quite a while to grow back, and with each use I find less hair growing back. By summer, I hope to be completely leg-hair free.

I have been using this about every other week for the past couple of months, and am amazed to see less and less hair on my legs. At this point in time, my hair is only growing back in sparse patches, which I just pay extra-attention to when using the system. In time, I hope to be completely body hair free.

Summary

If you had to twist my arm and make me say anything bad about this product, its that my dark-skinned beauties can’t partake in the action since it might alter their pigmentation. Other than those 2 points, I am over-the-moon, head-over-heels, in love with Silk’n SensEpil.

Let’s address the price for a moment, because the $499 price point has a lot of us cringing. Yes, it might be a slightly painful initial outlay, but it is 100% worth it if you hate body hair as much as I do. Trust me, in the end the hit to the wallet is not as painful as waxing, plucking, razor burn, or looking in the mirror to see a five o’clock shadow under your arms or on your legs. The unit rivals professional (and pricey) electroylsis, and the savings in hair-removal toolery and services will add up and make this machine pay for itself many times over. So yes, this machine really is worth it, especially if your goal is long term (permanent) hair removal.

Silk’n SensEpil is available on silkn.com, and at your local Sephora. I highly recommend it if you loathe body hair as much as I do.
